How to rent your first camera on VAKA (step by step)
You're taking photos at a birthday party and don't want to buy a $ 600 Canon. We show you how to rent a professional-quality one for $ 24/day.
You're heading to a birthday, a wedding, a weekend getaway. You want quality photos, but spending $ 600 on a camera you'll use 3 times a year doesn't make sense.
Why rent instead of buy
A mid-range DSLR costs $ 320-$ 1,000 new. If you use it 4-5 times a year, the real cost per use is $ 64-$ 200 per event, plus maintenance. Renting it for $ 24/day, you spend $ 120 on photos for the whole year.
3 steps to rent
- Find the camera in categories → photography. Filter by dates, nearby location and owner rating.
- Send the request. The owner has 24 hours to accept or decline.
- Pay and arrange the pickup by chat. The security deposit is charged when you receive the camera and returned to you after the 48-hour claim window, if you returned it in good condition.
Tips from an experienced user
- Book 5-7 days ahead: good gear gets booked up fast on weekends.
- Ask about the full kit: extra battery, charger, SD card, kit lens. Some owners include everything, others charge extra.
- Take photos when you receive it: the app captures timestamp + GPS automatically. It protects you if someone later claims "it was scratched".
